WHY TALK WITH TEENS ABOUT PURPOSE?

Making a positive contribution to the world starts with a knowledge of your strengths. Children can affirm or discover their strengths with feedback from adults they engage with.

Having a sense of purpose increases optimism, resiliency, and hope. Purpose is defined as the reason for which something exists or is done, made, or used. So, how do we talk to teens about purpose? First, we need to ask and help them identify what is important to them.


At the heart of all of Voyager's programs is the objective for young people to identify what elevates their energy. In other words, what interests them, stimulates their curiosity, and keeps their attention. Through our writing, civics and the arts and technology programs, young people are given tools and activities to dig into projects that motivate them to set short and long-term goals. Along the way, they identify their strengths, weaknesses, likes, dislikes, and what's important to them in their life.
