AI can be democratizing – if we collectively build it with guardrails and transparency and regard it as a tool.

First and foremost, this is not an AI-generated post.
For anyone with children or aging parents, or as consumers, which includes everyone, we must all educate ourselves and our communities about understanding that AI is a computer programmed by humans that accesses massive amounts of data generated by us. AI is constructed of data and not human consciousness. So, if you ask an AI Agent, What should I be when I grow up? – It’s no different than asking this same question of your local barista at the coffee shop! I added the barista comparison….The answer from both needs to be, “I don’t know you, so I can’t tell you what you should be when you grow up!” If a computer says anything different, it’s a lie. These are tools and need to be interacted with in that way. I’m learning to engage with AI with discernment, investigating the data it generates, questioning its validity, and determining its value.
The idea that AI is constructed of data and not human consciousness was illustrated in a short animated film at the UN AI for Good conference. This powerful message resonated across both the AI Summit and the UN AI for Good Conference, which I attended. The key takeaway is that transparency must be the universal standard for developing AI Agents that leverage LLMs (Large Language Models) to reason, plan, and execute tasks.
My main takeaway is that AI can be democratizing – if we collectively build it with guardrails and transparency.
